U. of Glasgow Criticized for Gender Imbalance Among Honorees; South Korea Investigates Awarding of Unauthorized Degrees
Sexism in Scotland?
Forty-seven senior academics at the University of Glasgow have released an open letter charging the institution with sexism for naming 72 men but only 8 women to receive honorary degrees in celebrations of its 550th anniversary.
"Such an imbalance does not reflect well on an institution which supposedly promotes equal opportunities and which proudly boasts that 57 percent of its student population is female," the letter states.
