DONE IN BY DEBT?: At least one casualty has emerged in the wake of a five-year plan to remedy the University of Florida's debt-ridden College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Neil S. Sullivan, dean of that college, said in November that he would step down January 1. During Mr. Sullivan's three years in charge, officials at Florida say, the college began incurring debts, which now total about $4-million.
