U. of Dhaka's Leader Quits
The vice chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh's largest and most prestigious higher-education institution, resigned last month after a week of the most intense student riots since the era of military dictatorships three decades ago. Anwarullah Chowdhury bowed to politicians' calls for his resignation, which had proliferated as the violence mounted.
The vice chancellor ordered a shutdown of the university to "ensure safety and security" for students and faculty and staff
