U. of Chicago Agrees to Pay U.S. $10.9-Million
University of Chicago officials said last month that the institution has agreed to pay the federal government $10.9-million to settle a lawsuit that accused the university of purposely overbilling Medicare and Medicaid claims.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago, charged that the university had defrauded the government by engaging in a practice known as "upcoding," in which a hospital submits claims to the Medicare and Medicaid programs for
