U. of California Wins a Round in Dispute With Microsoft
Reversing a preliminary ruling, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has affirmed a lucrative patent on Web-browser technology held by the University of California.
The university and the Microsoft Corporation have been locked in a legal battle for more than two years over who owns the patent, which covers a method for launching and displaying applications like software plug-ins and Java applets from Web browsers.
