U. of California Settles Federal Lawsuit
The University of California has settled a federal class-action lawsuit by agreeing to give deaf and hard-of-hearing students on its Berkeley and Davis campuses more control over the kinds of interpretation services and equipment they receive under the Americans With Disabilities Act.
The lawsuit, Siddiqi v. Regents, filed in 1999, charged that the university had failed to make reasonable accommodations for deaf and hearing-impaired students under the disabilities law.
