U. of California Regent Resigns Abruptly
An outspoken member of the University of California system's governing board stepped down last week in a one-sentence letter. John J. Moores, the owner of the San Diego Padres and chairman of a private investment firm, asked that his resignation be effective immediately.
Mr. Moores gave no reason for his departure, but he had several times expressed frustration with the university system's 26-member Board of Regents, on which he had served since 1999.
