The 225-member marching band of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff braved hours of waiting in frigid weather — after wake-up calls at 4 a.m. or earlier — to perform this week in the parade celebrating the inauguration of President Obama. But by the time the parade wound down, members of the Marching Musical Machine of the Mid-South, as the band calls itself, were too exultant to feel cold or tired.
“Our assistant band director claims we’re going to go to the Super Bowl,” said one of the band’s drum majors, “but this, I think, is going to take the cake forever.” Watch a Chronicle video documenting the band’s long but thrilling day.
