Turkey's Constitutional Court Halts Bid to Ease Ban on Head Scarves at Universities
Turkey's highest court on Thursday overruled two constitutional amendments passed by the Turkish Parliament in February that were designed to permit religiously observant Muslim women to wear head scarves at universities.
The constitutional court voted, 9 to 2, to annul the amendments, issuing no opinion and simply saying in a short statement that it had ruled in favor of an opposition party's challenge to the amendments because they violated three articles of the Constitution
