About These Data
This database shows the tuition and required fees at more than 3,100 colleges and universities in the academic years 2008-9 and 2009-10 as well as earlier years. In addition, for the first time, The Chronicle is publishing institutions’ totals for tuition, fees, room, and board if available. Those amounts may be viewed by clicking on the institution’s name.
For 2009-10, tuition and fees for both state residents and out-of-state residents are listed. The 2008-9 figures cover state residents only.
The figures represent charges to first-time, full-time undergraduates based, typically, on a nine-month academic year of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter-hours. An asterisk (*) indicates that an institution provided projected figures for 2009-10. The designation “n/a” indicates that figures were not available.
The data do not reflect the cost of attendance at an institution after grants and other student aid are considered. This net cost is often lower than the published fees shown.
Room-and-board fees charged by colleges may represent differing numbers of meals per week and so may not be comparable among institutions.
The College Board collected the figures in its Annual Survey of Colleges 2009. © 2009, The College Board. This material may not be copied, published, rewritten, or redistributed without permission.
