Troubled College in Illinois Wants a Rescue From the State

Rockford College, a liberal-arts institution fallen on hard times in Illinois, is seeking a $500,000 bailout from the state so it can stay open until the fall, when tuition dollars start flowing once again. According to an article in the Rockford Register Star, the college is in debt to the tune of $6.3-million to a bank and $4.1-million to vendors. “We are not describing a bankrupt or insolvent institution, but one with a cash-flow problem,” the newspaper quoted the college’s interim president as saying.
