Trimming Proportion of Students Who Need Remediation Proves Difficult for Cal State U.
California State University is struggling in its effort to reduce its remedial rolls.
Cal State officials released a report last week that showed that the proportion of high-school graduates who entered the system last fall needing extra preparation in English and mathematics remained about the same as the year before.
About 43 percent of first-time freshmen were sufficiently prepared for college work in both English and mathematics, the report says. That is one percentage point
