Forty percent of Hispanic students enrolled in California’s community colleges hope to transfer to a four-year institution, but less than 10 percent do so, according to a new report by the Chicano Studies Research Center at the University of California at Los Angeles.
The report, “An Examination of Latina/o Transfer Students in California’s Postsecondary Institutions,” says that the mismatch has significant implications for Hispanic-student achievement, given that 75 percent of the state’s Hispanic college students start at two-year institutions. —Elyse Ashburn
