Traffic Accident Stirs Protest in China; French University Body Won't Weigh Policy on Israel
In a demonstration rare for its kind in China, about 3,000 students gathered this month to protest at the gates of Hefei University of Technology.
The demonstrations in Hefei, capital of Anhui province, several hundred miles west of Shanghai, were held to call attention to unsafe conditions in front of the university. A traffic accident there a day earlier, when a truck ran a red light, killed two students. A third student was hospitalized.
