Top Candidate for Louisiana State Post Is Used to Courting Controversy

People who watch Mike Martin in his role as president of New Mexico State University say he did something unusual recently.
After two young professors were let go amid allegations of discrimination and harassment, Mr. Martin commented on a small protest group that had been organized by students. He called the protest, composed mainly of women, a "sewing circle," and added that just because he could get thousands of signatures to transform the university library into a sports
