Too Little Time as Teachers

To the Editor:

Community members, parents of schoolchildren, and school-board officers should all be concerned about the dubious track record that Teach for America has earned for its past efforts ("Elite Company," The Chronicle, June 22). As someone deeply invested in the highest standards in the training of teachers, I oppose the legislation introduced by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to give the organization more federal funds, in an attempt to produce more highly qualified teachers
