U. of La Verne finds that family expectations need to be adjusted so children can succeed
Kenia Magallanes's decision to attend the University of La Verne, a three-hour drive from home, did not sit well with her family.
She had been raised in a traditional Mexican-American household in Brawley, Cal., and her mother and stepfather wanted her to stay at home and commute to a local community college.
