Threats to Natural History and Museums
To the Editor:
I offer a strong second to the points made by David S. Wilcove and Thomas Eisner ("The Impending Extinction of Natural History," The Review, September 15). ... The problems they identify as leading to the impending extinction of the biological side of natural history are being experienced by those of us on the geological side of natural-history studies as well.
We need a renewed emphasis on specimen-based science, both in education and in research. Computer
