Thorny Tenure Case at Case Western Leads to Sex-Bias Charges
A scientist with a strong publication record was twice denied tenure, and her data were seized
The phone rang in Carol A. Stepien's office around 3 p.m. that Friday afternoon, just before the start of the Labor Day weekend in 1999. It was Joseph F. Koonce, her colleague in the biology department at Case Western Reserve University.
They had to talk, he said.
