The Use and Misuse of Student Data

The recent disclosure by the U.S. Education Department that it was sharing information from its financial-aid database with the Federal Bureau of Investigation only adds to my concern about the Commission on the Future of Higher Education's proposal to create a national student-record database ("Education Dept. Gave Students' Records to FBI in Antiterrorist Operation," The Chronicle, September 8).
