The Texas Test Case: Integrating America's Colleges
The state of Florida recently released the results of Gov. Jeb Bush's 1999 decision to ban affirmative action in admissions in Florida and replace it with a plan that guarantees the top 20 percent of the graduates of every high school admission to a state university. The number of African-American freshmen at the University of Florida dropped from 829 to 659, although the proportion of minority students at public universities has remained largely the same.
