The State of Tenure
BEST CASE: When figures for estimated literacy in the United States took a plunge in 2010, state and federal authorities took action, increasing their overall education budgets. This reversal of fortune in education's finances meant smaller classes and more support for faculty members.
The crisis also created better public relations for education in general. Educators at all levels, including college professors, became more adept at communicating the mission of academe to the public,
