The Russia Houses

Within the 4,800 square meters of floor space set aside at this year's Frankfurt Book Fair for exhibits from Russia -- 2003's "Country of Honor" at the "world's largest gathering of book people and publishers"one reality quickly became clear.

Although the country's total numbers impressed -- some 200 publishing houses, 130 living and breathing (well, smoking) Russian authors, and scores of panels and presentations at a huge six-day event that involved more than 300,000 people
