The Real Costs of Tuition Waivers
To the Editor:
The article about cuts in tuition benefits at Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is misleading on one tax point: University-provided tuition waivers are ordinarily taxable, not tax-free, for graduate-level education ("Stanford and M.I.T. Reduce Tuition Benefits for Children of Employees," February 26).
