The Purpose of Tenure for Any Generation

In "Rethinking Tenure for the Next Generation" (The Chronicle Review, September 11), Cathy A. Trower has drawn attention to a number of serious problems confronting faculty members in higher education. The problems are most acute for part-time faculty and younger faculty members, and need to be addressed.
