The Price and Quality of Textbooks
To the Editor:
Paul F. deLespinasse's words could not be more true: "Given modern technology, there is no reason why textbooks could not be extremely cheap, if not free" ("One Way to Rein In the Cost of Textbooks: Make Them Free," The Chronicle, February 15).
Pricing textbooks high and other publishing practices can be just as frustrating to instructors as they are to students, so the idea of low-cost or free textbooks is music to many ears. In fact, deLespinasse's vision is
