The Power of Tears in Teaching

Thanks to Jeffrey Berman for reminding us that, as educators, we must be real with our students ("Crying in the Classroom," The Review, April 18). Some of the most powerful learning experiences that I have had with students have been times of tears and pain in all kinds of settings -- the classroom, the dormitory, and even the discipline process.
