Lawsuits charge that coaches end up taking the blame, and the consequences, for the sins of their colleges
The enforcement staff of the National Collegiate Athletic Association has never been welcomed with open arms on college campuses. They are the G-men, the "terminators," as one official put it: the people who can nail a program for rules violations. What they find can cost a team scholarships, the chance to play for a championship, even an entire season or two.
