The Mystery of the Falling SAT Scores
Why did national SAT scores decline for the second straight year? Last week the College Board, which owns the exam, was quick with an answer as to why the combined SAT math and reading scores had fallen by four points: The testing cohort was more diverse than ever. Thirty-nine percent of SAT takers in the high-school class of 2007 were minority students, and blacks and Hispanics score lower, on average, than white students.
