The Long Life of Discrimination
To the Editor:
Richard Thompson Ford's new book, The Race Card, seems likely to dispel much of the fog from the study of racial inequality ("Pulling the Race Card From the Deck," The Chronicle Review, February 29). However, it may be that both he and the analyses he reviews have overlooked an additional cause of racial disparities that arguably has operated for the past 35 years, at least in the South.
