The Legacy of Jane Jacobs

Jane Jacobs, who died last month at the age of 89, never earned a college degree and never held an academic position. But her ideas, put forward in The Death and Life of Great American Cities (Random House, 1961) and its many successors, left deep impressions on the fields of sociology, economics, and urban studies.
