The Intrinsic Value of Education
To the Editor:
If job preparation were the only purpose of education, Randall Collins's "The Dirty Little Secret of Credential Inflation" (The Review, September 27) would indeed paint a dire picture. It is tightly reasoned but based on that false assumption, which is ... based on the notion that a person's worth is based entirely on what he or she does for a living. Granted, marketing our product has all too often been done in this context, but ... we have goals far beyond careerism
