In your January 5 issue, Arden L. Bement, director of the National Science Foundation, argues brilliantly for investment in education, research, and research infrastructure, with a focus on cyberinfrastructure as a key driving element in the knowledge-intensive global economy ("Cyberinfrastructure: the Second Revolution," Information Technology).
In the same issue, an article on online classes has not a single mention of research ("Cashing In on Virtual Courses,"
