Johns Hopkins Press agreed to publish a study of a girls' school -- until its officials complainedAndrea D. Hamilton's career seemed poised to take off at the end of 1998. With the unanimous endorsement of its editorial board, the Johns Hopkins University Press had agreed to publish her revised dissertation, on the history of the Bryn Mawr School, a private academy for girls in Baltimore. That decision would greatly improve her chances of landing a tenure-track job.
