The Goodness of John Hope Franklin
To the Editor:
John Hope Franklin will be eulogized by countless persons, from presidents to housemaids, with tears and sermons, in capitals and hamlets, in our country and abroad. Why? Not because of his countless honors and historic achievements, so well documented by David Levering Lewis in his "Influences" essay ("John Hope Franklin's Moral and Intellectual Poise," The Chronicle Review, April 10), but because he made those who knew him feel hope for mankind.
