The Goal of Professors Should Not Be to Win a War in Academe
To the Editor:
The essay by Cary Nelson raises many key issues pertinent to American higher education in the late 1990s ("The War Against the Faculty," Opinion, April 16). Professor Nelson fails to acknowledge, however, the increasingly competitive nature of higher education today and the extraordinary challenges that most administrators face daily in assuring the health and sustainability of our institutions.
