The Ethics of a Study on Upward Bound
To the Editor:
It was suggested that I had made an "incendiary and entirely unwarranted" comparison of government-sponsored research on the college-prep program Upward Bound to the "infamous Tuskegee experiment" (Letters, The Chronicle, September 21).
The letter writers noted that "the Tuskegee experiment's breach of research and moral standards prompted federal regulations to protect the rights of human subjects." It is precisely that federal obligation to protect human
