The End for a Private College — With Big Assets
Sierra Nevada attracted rich moguls, but not enough students. Will it go for-profit?
For the undergraduate who wants to get away and loves to ski, Sierra Nevada College is close to paradise. The campus, shaded by 80-foot-tall Ponderosa pines, fairly screams resort. Students stroll past volleyball courts on blindingly green lawns or loll around rough-hewn wooden tables and on leather sofas beneath the cathedral ceilings of the chalet-style buildings.
