The Demise of Mascot Network

To the Editor:

The tone of Scott Carlson's article titled "Provider of Student-Portal Services for Colleges Plans to Close" (October 26) suggests a dubious and uncertain future for third-party vendors supporting campuses' technology infrastructure. I believe this is an alarmist view. Mascot Network's demise is not indicative in the least of the state of the market for third-party solutions, and if anything, it provides a valuable lesson to both vendors and institutions. Across the
