The Decline and Fall of Computer Science

As the executive director of the Computer Science Teachers Association, I watch the pipeline discussions with great interest but tend to take a slightly different view of the enrollment decreases ("Student Interest in Computer Science Plummets," The Chronicle, May 27). I think they are exceedingly worrisome, but I think that the problems begin long before students enter college.
