The Contribution of Scholars
I am just finishing up my second tour in Iraq, and I will come back again next year. One aspect of this conflict I have come to appreciate is how greatly the situation varies depending on your location. Different neighborhoods, tribes, and regions are populated by very different Iraqis who have very different customs. I struggle to make sense of it all, not so I can target the enemy better but so I can assist people in resolving their own problems. Anthropologists and other social scientists
