The China She Knows, the China She Doesn't
It's just past 6 a.m. The sun has barely started its ascent across the polluted Beijing sky. But in a dusty, fledgling neighborhood outside the city's fifth ring road, the Dandelion School courtyard is already filled with the sound of feet hitting pavement — a steady pitter-patter, punctuated by a panted "yi, er, san, si." The 630 students are running clockwise in a circle as a single burly gym teacher keeps watch, his arms crossed, at the center of the yard.
