It's been a tough year for Ph.D.'s searching for academic positions, and this fall promises to remain just as challenging. Many of the doctoral students and postdocs we've talked with say they plan to pursue dual job searches, looking for both academic and nonacademic positions.

This fall the CV Doctor would like to help two candidates prepare both strong academic CV's and résumés for nonacademic positions. We'll give them a first round of feedback on both documents and ask them to make changes. We'll publish both the before and the after versions, with commentary, on The Chronicle's Web site.

If you're interested in participating, we ask you to send an electronic copy (a Microsoft Word document, please) of both your CV and your résumé to careertalk@chronicle.com. In addition, send a statement giving us permission to publish your materials on this Web site. While we cannot promise complete anonymity, we will change names, contact information, and the names of the institution(s) where you've most recently worked or earned a degree. You'll also need to be willing to revise your documents in a timely fashion.

Please also take the time to tell us a little bit about yourself in the e-mail message that you send with your documents. We'd like to know which types of institutions you'll be sending your CV to, and which kinds of nonacademic positions you're interested in. Finally, please be sure to send your documents in a .doc format, rather than .pdf.

Please send your CV and résumé by August 28 to careertalk@chronicle.com, in order to be considered.
