One arts-journalism program has closed, and another has opened. The National Arts Journalism Program at Columbia University, which was founded in 1994 to offer fellowships to midcareer arts critics, was forced to close July 1, due to financial problems. But also in July, Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications opened a master's-degree program in arts journalism.
