The Appeal of Sad Songs
To the Editor:
Because I too am a sap about "weepy songs," I was relieved to read Kevin J.H. Dettmar's commentary about his drive back from a Carbondale doctor's appointment and his profound experience with the rock 'n' roll emanating from his car CD player ("Don't Forget the Songs That Made You Cry," Opinion, April 7). It has happened to me many times.
Dettmar's point that music is empathy -- that songs experienced profoundly embody the human emotions
