Thailand to Open a University in a Muslim Region, to Defuse Tension
Thailand says it will open a university in the country's violence-wracked south in order to cater to the needs of the region's Muslim majority.
The government hopes that expanded educational opportunities closer to home will discourage young Muslims from going abroad to study at hard-line religious institutions in the Middle East.
