Texas Southern University has begun the process of stripping its former president of tenure after widespread complaints that it was inappropriate and disruptive for the ex-president, Priscilla D. Slade, to teach accounting classes when she was under felony indictment for spending university money for personal gain.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Ms. Slade, who was fired as president in April for her spending practices, returned to a faculty post after her dismissal, and sought teaching assignments this fall, even as she prepares for trial on two criminal charges and pursues a lawsuit against the university for breach of contract and denial of due process.
In the meantime, while the tenure-revocation process goes ahead, Ms. Slade, who has vigorously denied the charges, will be on paid leave, earning $208,275 a year as the highest-paid professor on the campus.
