Texas Narrows Rule on Background Checks
The University of Texas System will no longer require criminal-background checks on all new job applicants. Instead, it will use a narrower policy that applies only to "security sensitive" positions.
The broad policy, announced in March, was criticized by faculty members as a waste of time that could harm recruiting. The policy was suspended for faculty members in July. Mark G. Yudof, the new chancellor of the Texas system, said at the time that he wanted to examine the issue and that
