Texas Christian U. Teams on Probation

The National Collegiate Athletic Association has placed the men's and women's track teams at Texas Christian University on probation for two years after an investigation uncovered "a pattern of willful violations" over a seven-year period.

Among other serious violations, assistant coaches attended classes for athletes and wrote papers for them, according to a report released last month by the NCAA's Division I Committee on Infractions. In one instance, the teams' former head coach,
