Tennessee State U. Reins In Its President

The Tennessee Board of Regents this month moved to appoint an executive vice president to oversee daily operations at Tennessee State University after two state audits raised concerns about campus finances and the leadership of the president, James A. Hefner.

"It is clear that Dr. Hefner must have senior-level assistance in getting the university onto the right track," said J. Stanley Rogers, the board's vice chairman.

The board plans to make the appointment within six weeks.
